Lots of people are enjoying a long weekend because this Sunday, November 11, 2012 was Veteran’s Day. All this free time has set me to thinking about arm bands. We wear all kinds of arm bands, some to make a point, some for decoration, some to save our lives, some just for fun. Here are some examples of various arm bands people wear:
Wouldn’t it be a great idea if we gave those who served in our armed forces arm bands to wear on Veteran’s Day so they could identify themselves as those who have made sacrifices for the security of all Americans and have helped people in other lands to learn how to fight their own enemies. Then we could tell who our vets are and we could say thank you. We can’t give them brownies because they are too fattening. We can’t buy them a drink because we might be enabling an addiction. Maybe we could just salute or wave a flag that said thank you or hand them a quarter until their pockets were so full they could barely walk. Or maybe each one of us could buy an arm band with the name of a vet on it to wear all day on Veteran’s Day and the proceeds from the sale could be put to use to meet the needs of our veterans. Something! Anyway, what I really want to say is that I and, I assume, all Americans appreciate so much the services given to America by the members of our Armed Forces. Thank you.
